The End of The World is a catastrophic event in Sonny (2017) that brought on the partial destruction of civilization.

History[]

London

London in ruins.

We are first shown glimpses of it at the start of the game, the comic book style cutscenes show London, a train station, and an unknown person in a helicopter flying away from a city in ruins. We are also shown a Zombie, hinting that the event was caused, at least partly, by their presence.

This event wiped entire regions clean of life and cities, as seen with The Silver Strand. Veradux mentions it during the journey to Basecamp.

Trainstation

A high-speed rail train station in ruins.

Sonny learns tidbits of this event through conversations but it isn't until they reach Blackhall Keep that Doctor Herregods talks about the origin of the Zombie virus and everyone goes silent, when he learns exactly what happened. A long time ago, through experiments in science and old magic, The Baron succeeded in resurrecting the dead through an incurable virus, and to try and prevent the spread of the virus, the people above ground sealed all entrances to the tunnels that lead to the city.

A few hundred years later, not only has Humanity seemingly not completely recovered, they're still fighting the reanimated dead.

Through conversations with The Baron before each stage, he explains that he did not create the first zombies to have an army that could not be defeated, but because he needed to bring back Marie, his wife. At first, The Baron says he would do it all over again for that moment when Marie's eyes opened once more, but once he's defeated him in battle he says he regrets his actions, but will never apologize for loving Marie.

Theories[]

This section contains theoretical information.
This is a fan-made theory and not official information.

If the Baron only created zombies to raise Marie, how did the virus spread?

The Baron's clothing and title resemble that of a pirate from the 1800s and assuming the game's set in the 2010s, it would fit with the "several hundred years later" quote as said by Veradux. However, this theory falls flat when you consider that humanity must've somehow evolved to reach levels of technology even greater than ours in the real world, all while combatting a deadly zombie virus with no cure in the foreseeable future.

Trivia[]

  • The apocalypse brought on the creation of new organizations like ZPCI, tasked with killing all Zombies, and InfectAid, tasked with helping those affected by the virus.
