Sonny is the main protagonist of the series. He is voiced by Andrew Dennis. Sonny is an intelligent zombie, with the capacity to speak and behave like a normal human being.
Background[]
Details about his life before he was zombified are almost totally unknown. Both his zombification and death probably happened on the research ship White November, which is also the place where he was revived by Louis.
His identity before his zombification and death is also kept totally untold, and Sonny himself doesn't have any memory of his life or about himself before these events. The possibilities of his identity are vast, as he could have been anyone on and off the ship - one of the crew, a passenger, a researcher, or someone else.
It's possible that he and Louis knew each other before Sonny lost his memory, possibly as friends, as Louis had told Sonny that he was a friend when Sonny asked who he was.
Involvement[]
Once Sonny is brought back to life by Louis, the two of them attempt to escape White November together on a speedboat.
Personality[]
Much like the original universe version, Sonny's personality is a bit difficult to pin down due to the nature of the game. Sonny is shown to be somewhat of a pacifist early on, seen with his reluctance to kill another zombie even giving a defeated "Alright." before he does. He is also a bit of a joker, even causing Kara to laugh. From his interactions with a lot of the characters and the creatures/people/zombies he comes across,
Sonny can generally be described as empathetic, witty, humoristic, sensitive, amiable, polite, but at times even vengeful as he was looking forward to meeting Captain Vendara again in combat after nearly getting killed by him at The Silver Strand. Sonny never shows expressive anger towards his friends or even enemies and is always polite towards them save for a few quips he might drop in his dialogue. Despite Sonny being a successful human experiment with Dr. Brandt's Super Zombie strain sequenced into his genome, granting him superhuman and some supernatural abilities and the capacity to use these powers as he pleases, Sonny never once considered using these powers for selfish gain or wreak havoc with them. In fact, Sonny repeatedly proves his inner goodness vastly outweighs his capacity for destruction, violence and causing harm. Even without any memories, dazed, confused and with barely a sense of identity as he had only been resurrected for a couple of minutes, he attempted to save an Acid Zombie from the ship he woke up on after being told by Louis that he had died and is a zombie, innocently desiring to help the decayed, ugly creature regardless of circumstance, hoping he could talk to it somehow.
When Louis was gunned down by the ZPCI, Sonny was horrified and killed them all in a grief-stricken frenzy. After killing them all, he desperately attempted to help his dying rescuer get up and escape from the ship with him out of gratitude & loyalty and was genuinely heartbroken that he couldn't save the man who saved his life and had to leave him behind. Louis's death deeply saddened Sonny, although for the sake of not making the game all about how sad Sonny felt, they didn't delve much deeper into Sonny's emotions.
Although the flash games give more hints about Sonny's interest in his former life, it is clear that in this game Sonny also wants to know about who he was before he died. He seemed slightly disappointed by Doctor Herregods's inability to find more information about him in Dr. Brandt's notes and expressed a desire of wanting to know who he was. Much like the flash games, this could possibly manifest into a psychological vulnerability as Sonny's head especially always hurts when near Baron Brixius, a psychotic zombie overlord who uses mind control to bend creatures and people to his will.
It appears that in this version of the game, Sonny's personality became more light-hearted and sympathetic, presenting himself as a good-natured protagonist thrown into a world he doesn't understand but wishes to do good in, even being reluctant to cause harm unless presented with no alternative to survive.
Name Origin[]
Sonny is a common name that is taken from the word 'Son'. Originally started as a nickname, it has become a name that is given. Sonny as a character reflects this as Louis originally called him 'Sonny' as a nickname, which he then took as his actual name.

Attributes[]
Attribute Notes:
- Values in bold can be encountered in a Legend run (no training), no bold means that these values are only available in training fights.
- Italic values cannot be encountered in training despite being coded in the game due to Sonny's level being +1 higher than the zone level when entering a new zone, on a legend run.
- Buffs cannot reduce Power/Defense/Speed below 1. This also applies to Vitality but it normally cannot be modified in battle.
- For Defense specifically, this means that the Damage taken Mod becomes ~200% while both breached and exposed. See this this page for more info.
- Visible Power/Defense/Speed is rounded to nearest integer. If the actual value ends exactly in ".5", then it will be rounded to nearest even integer. Visible (Max) HP is rounded up.
- Abilities can also have Hit./Crit. Bonuses, which are listed under the Abilities section.
- Only Physical Defense is shown because the other elemental defenses are not used at all on units. They can still get non-physical elemental defense from certain abilities.
Note: This unit is allied, which means that it has lower stats than enemies at same levels, but can equip items. The values below show their attributes while having no equipment. | |||||||||||||

Gameplay[]
Due to being the protagonist of the game, he offers the most variety. While he does not have a class to choose from like in Sonny or Sonny 2, he is able to inherit strains that give access to new skills that Sonny could not use before.
Strains in Sonny (2017)[]
The following is a list of strains in Sonny (2017). Strains replaced classes in the game and Sonny is stuck with the physical strain until a certain point of the game where the player can choose their desired strain.
He also is the only member of the party that can Evolve abilities to assist him in combat - such as mutating an ability so it will attack twice or being able to make an ability do more damage under certain conditions (Such as lowering health to under 35%).

Trivia[]
- There is a chance that when Sonny lands an attack, he could say "You shouldn't have done that!", "Oh, I got something for ya!" or "Sorry about this!".
- The game sets Quick Strike and Regenerate as default abilities for Sonny, hence why they're always (re-)added when the player re-specs. However, these abilities are not coded into Sonny's own ability pool, like all other A.I. units. Because of this, Sonny always skips their turn if Sonny is hacked into the game as an ally rather than a playable character.
