Roald is a playable character in Sonny 2. He is an Insurgent, and he joins Sonny's party after you complete stage 2 at Oberursel.
Background[]
He is a human whom Sonny meets in the village of Oberursel. He and his fellow insurgents were rebelling against a violent cult in the village, which Sonny helps him to destroy. He was formerly a member of a group of researchers in the Utopia trying to find a cure for zombification. However, members of the group started disappearing: some were found dead, some were simply taken. In hindsight, it was likely the work of the ZPCI, but Roald and the others weren't aware of it at the time. Those that had survived fled from the Utopia to Oberursel. Unfortunately, it was not much better there; between the cult and the marauding zombies in the area, their lives were almost in as much danger at the village as they were in the Utopia.
In Oberursel, Roald and another Insurgent chanced upon Sonny and Veradux, and briefly exchanged combat before realizing that they were not enemies. Sonny requests for a road to Utopia, and Roald counteroffers that if the two helped to take down the cult in the area, he would lead them to Utopia himself. Roald then joins the party.
Name Origin[]
Roald is a name that has Norse origins, meaning famous ruler.[1]

Ability Selection (Enemy)[]
Notes on enemy AI: | While in a given battle stage, enemies will attempt to use First Choice abilities. If impossible (due to focus, silencing or cooldowns), they will proceed to Second Choice, etc. Cooldown for enemies indicates how often abilities may be used, and is effectively one less than for Sonny (IE cooldown of 2 can be used every second turn) Enemy-targetting abilities have a chance of targetting the weakest enemy rather than targetting at random; this is given in the Attributes section above. Ally-targetting abilities always target the weakest targetable ally. Selection within a category is random unless indicated. All exceptions noted below. |

Tactics[]
As an Enemy[]
Roald and the Insurgent will stop fighting Sonny and Veradux within two turns. This essentially make the fight more plot based and requires at least one of them to survive two turns. In a Legend run Roald will be a couple of levels above Sonny and Veradux, however, his damage output is not too intense and would rarely, if ever, kill both party members within two turns. Alternatively, Sonny and Veradux can defeat one of them to skip the dialogue. While that is possible, this would require an extreme scenario such as both Sonny and Veradux being over leveled, it would still take an extreme effort to defeat both enemies. Sonny and Veradux do not need to actively defend or play supportive as Veradux's heal can sustain both of them well enough for two turns.
As an Ally[]
Veradux will keep his role as a supportive character due to his heals. While Roald can heal, he heals for a smaller amount with its main appeal being the buff that reduces damage and increases healing received. Despite this, in higher difficulties Roald will most likely be set onto Relentless mode for his damage output.
His main competitor is Felicity. Compared to her, Roald is the more tanky option, being more able to endure more attacks with better supporting options (as Blade Shield can ultimately harm the target if it breaks, which Greater Purpose lacks). Roald can still do a fair amount of damage, even if its less than Felicity plus he can stun targets, even if its a percentage chance.
Within a Legend run, Felicity will be the first character to be able to use the equipment within Hew's shop as she starts at the same level of those items. Roald will be the second character to be strong enough to equip those items, however, due to not being able to use those items as early, he might hinder the team in some levels before reaching level 22.
General Tips[]
- Flame Katana gives a high Strength, Speed, Vitality, and Fire Piercing; while Biologicals may find its high Speed and Vitality useful, Roald is the only ally who gains from Fire Piercing. Imperial Rifle is also useful, especially if you are in Hew or ll Sanctus, where Flame Katana is not yet available.
- As none of his abilities use Instinct to scale, items that provide it are useless. It's best to give him items that provide Strength. Speed and Vitality are also useful.
- Venom smite does much more damage with him than the rebellion striker.
- It is generally best to keep him on relentless mode as Greater Purpose only heals in double digits or triple in the very late game. Its buff, however, can be useful if a party member's health starts to get low as Veradux's heals are helped by the buff.
Drops[]
As an enemy, Roald drops nothing, but after becoming a party member, you can use his equipment.

Trivia[]
- Whenever Roald makes a critical strike with an attack, you may hear him saying, "Get outta my way!".
- Shoot has no cooldown, meaning that he may use it repeatedly if he has the Focus to do so.
- Roald is the first human companion in the series and the only canon human companion in the first two flash games as Catelin and Amber only appear in the Infinity, which is non-canon to the plot.
- Roald's appearance and accent may be a nod to Connor or Murphy MacManus from the Boondock Saints series, as both fight for their cause and have Irish accents
